Well I went and did it again. I got involved in yet another interactive fan fiction story. This time, my character was paired with Richie (much more to my liking). That story wrapped in early November 2008, and I had been asked to assemble the "story posts", that is, the posts that tell Richie and Jen's story, in one place for people to read.

So I'm doing it.

I'm having to add some filler as I go, as there were lengthy pauses between the verbose posts I made, but I'm trying to keep the flow of the story going.

The Richie/Jen story is only half of the fan fic project. The other half was a Jon/T story. That is not explored here at all. In fact, very little mention is made. Just enough so it isn't a surprise when T shows up at various points.

If anything is confusing, please let me know. I've been living this character for the better part of the last eight months, and her memories are mine. I forget, sometimes, that you all can't see into my head.

I hope you enjoy the story. It starts here.

The End

Monday, May 24, 2010
No, gentle reader, this is not where I’m ending the story. I thought about it, just to be mean, to let you draw your own conclusions, but decided that I’m not quite done with you or this story yet.

No, I have a treat for you…. Well for some of you.

You see, this story has two possible outcomes, as you may surmise; one good, one not so much. I’ve explored both.

I’m trusting you, gentle reader, to do the noble thing; to read BOTH endings. After all, I toiled over each and every word in the original ending as well as in the alternate one, and they BOTH deserve to be read.

I warn you right now, I liked the original ending SO much that I considered not writing the second one. But, you see, my devoted, many of you begged me to please give Richie his Happily Ever After, and I couldn’t ignore you.

Oh dear.

I have said too much ~ I may have given too much away.

Ah well, you can’t un-ring a bell, as my Mama likes to say.

Please, do me a favor, read both endings.

And do me one more, and tell me honestly, which one you think was better written. Not which one you liked better, but which one you thought moved you more.

I know which one did it for me.

And now, gentle reader:

The End (Original Ending) The End (Alternate Ending)

Both endings are great, Hath. I have to say so I like it that I don't burst into tears reading the Alternate one. ;)

Writing myself I can understand though, that it was hard for you to write another ending to your story. I'm not sure I would have been able to do it. Great job!

Hath - First of all, thank you for the incredibly fun journey this story has been. It has been one of the best stories I have read in a long, long time. Thank you taking time out of your busy life to write it & share it with us.

Now for the endings. I can't say I'm a fan of the original ending but as a reader, I could clearly see that this was the ending that you, the writer, had the most passion for. You had my crying like a baby through most of it. That's a testament to you as a writer that you can invoke such emotion in your readers.

I appreciate you taking the time to write a 'happier ending' for those of us who are suckers for happy endings. Sorry to hear that it took you 4 months though. Clearly it wasn't an ending you wanted but as the reader, I appreciate.

I hope that you will share your writing talents with us again soon. I know, I for one am going to miss the Jen & Richie saga but anxiously await your next creation.

Many, many thanks for sharing this with us.

Jen, I have told you numerous times that you are an absolute fantastic writer. Of course, I did not really like the original ending, but I must say that I was moved to tears. The ending had so much emotion in it. You really poured your heart and soul into it. I felt like I was there in the hospital room when Richie asked Hath to marry him and again when the wedding actually took place. I have not cried so hard in a long time.
The second ending was very nice-it did not move me though-it was just nice.

I would never choose for Hath to die, but the first ending definitely was the better of the two.
Just my opinion.

If I had read the HEA ending first, I would have thought, "oh, sweet story, nice ending" and remembered the story fondly and with much appreciation for the excellent writing. However, having read the original ending first, the HEA just pales in comparison. The original was just......perfect. Sad, (heartrendingly sob-out-loud-and-scare-the-dog sad, even on the third read when I KNEW what was coming - an effect I'm sure you appreciate *g*) but it was easy to see from the writing that it was the way the author envisioned it, the way the story was _meant_ to be. Thanks for both, and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next! :)

Hi

I found this a week ago and it’s a wonderful story, beautifully written, I enjoyed it very much.

As for the endings well I have to say that they were both perfect but for some reason the original ending dose it for me … don’t know why, but it just seems to fit better …. Used a hell of a lot of tissues though

Thanks

Hi Hath,

finally I have the time to read the end of your story. I had to make sure noone would interupt me while I'm reading ;)

Since I was one of those begging you to not kill Jen, I have to tell you not many would have done the effort to write two endings just because we reader demand them to be HEA.

I've read the gut wrenching, yet awesome written original ending on T's place and it broke my heart. It was just that at this time, I couldn't stand to read sad stories, or with yours, story with such a heartbreaking end. Add to it my own fear of flying ( and hub has to fly often too...) it was just too close to my real life.

I remember what your story did to me the last time I've read it. So bear with me, I choose to read only the HEA this time.

For me, it was just perfect :)
You really have an awesome talent and I hope you will be back soon with another story xxx
